Ultrasound involves high frequency sound waves, which are converted into an image on the screen.
An ultrasound examination is safe when used by a trained professional and is non-invasive (except when required in some pelvic examinations).
An ultrasound examination involves the use of an ultrasound probe which will be passed across the skin surface. A gel is used and placed on the skin to enable the ultrasound to be performed. You may be required to hold your breath for short periods to enable the required image to be obtained.
